Thanks to alert reader (and a former skipper of mine) Larry Hoppe and alert Northwest Yachting contributor Peter Marsh, we heard about the container ship MOL Comfort, which apparently broke apart in 6 meter seas off Yemen. All 26 crew members abandoned ship and were rescued, but the ship reportedly sank and an unknown number of containers may have broken free and are floating (or partially submerged) in the Indian ocean. The ship was an 8000 TEU (twenty foot equivalent unit) ship and was laden with more than 7,000 TEUs. Watch for containers! -KH
