Australian boatbuilder Maritimo has expanded their presence in the Pacific Northwest with a new company office in Seattle, so why not look at what they’ve got? The popular M51 is one of their mid-sized flybridge models that should take well to our waterways.
What we have in the M51 is a sporty cruiser with many of the traditionally Maritimo features, such as the prominent full enclosed flybridge with internal staircase. An option is offered for the seating up there to convert into a large berth on command, perhaps one of the best cruising in comfort arrangements out there for two people on wheel watch. The helm in the flybridge is the only one aboard and features racecar styling with a commanding view. The open bridge aft is covered with a deployable hardtop and has high railings, a great spot to enjoy a cocktail and watch the sun go down.
With the helm above, the salon space below is entirely devoted to entertaining with very generous seating around a table near the companionway that leads down to the accommodations. Below are the three staterooms, including two large island-style master berths, and two enclosed heads.
The galley is aft near where the large bi-fold doors completely open to the covered cockpit where another table with seating is located. Maritimos tend to have very spacious walk around decks, and the M51 is no exception.
Dual stairs lead to the swimstep off the stern. Engine access is also back there through the transom, and the standard twin Volvo D11s inboard diesel engines provide a total of 670 horsepower. According to California-based dealer Compass Point Yachts, the M51 can deliver a maximum speed of about 30 knots.
