The Rat Island Rowing and Sculling Club is about more than rowing, it’s about Pacific Northwest history. And as many of you have learned from The Boys in the Boat by Daniel James Brown, it’s a history we can be proud of. This video is part of a current fundraiser for restoring the Kathy Lazara Whitman shell, which is in good enough shape to get a full restoration.
You might want to see this video profile of George Pocock and his amazing shells. My favorite lines from the video: “First of all, you should have harmony. If there’s a man in the boat you don’t like, LIKE HIM. Because you’ll never win races if there’s no harmony.”
Words to sail, er, row by.
