If racers were getting a little antsy about this week’s racing conditions, they certainly got their fill in when Penn Cove delivered its patented conditions for the final day. PRO Charley Rathkopf squeezed every race he could out of the wind and the fleet, with all classes getting eight or nine races.
The star of the week was Kevin Welch’s Melges 24 Mikey, which won every race in its 10-boat class. As impressive as that win was, most classes had clear winners. Shrek won over 1D35 sistership The Shadow by six points, as did the J/29 Slick over Brad Butler’s Sierra 26 Uno.
Jerry Diercks’ Delirium won its class in seven of nine races. Rigger Chris Tutmark and Patricia didn’t have it quite that easy in the “Super 30” (four Farrs and a Flying Tiger) class, but did manage to win five races for a nice margin over Nefarious.
Kowloon and Diva won their respective classes. In the P8 class Mark Harang, his son along with Brad Baker and his son claimed victory with Harang’s Evelyn 26 Nimbus in what was arguably the most competitive and certainly the largest class.
Hopefully we can assemble some more real detail and current photos in the days to come.
