Tim Jarvis and Barry Gray made it on foot to the whaling station at Stromness on South Georgia Island, just as Ernest Shackleton did in 1916. Like Shackleton, they did so without high tech clothing and all the modern expedition equipment. The glacier crossings to complete the trip were harrowing, just as Shackleton had reported back then. Here is the Shackleton Epic site. Well worth a few minutes for anyone who appreciates that kind of history, or that kind of modern adventure.
