From our mates at Des Moines Yacht Club. . .
Held annually at the Des Moines Yacht Club, South Sound Opening features fun for the whole family. There’s the pomp of the bagpipe band, flag ceremony with visiting dignitaries in dress uniform, and a blessing for the coming boating season. Live music, lots of marine oriented displays and demonstrations, tours of docked boats and the property will be featured and a hot dog lunch is available for a small fee. The public is invited to attend these activities from 11:00am to 4pm. The ceremony begins at 12noon.
Visiting yacht club members are invited to come Friday to enjoy cocktails and hors d’oeuvres in the upstairs lounge at 6pm and lunch in the lounge on Saturday. Everyone is welcome at the dinner/dance held Saturday night in the ballroom beginning at 6pm. Dinner Saturday night will be a Clam Fest. The Tropics band starts at 7:45pm. Cost is $25/person, $10 for children 6-12. Breakfast is also served Sunday morning for visiting club members.
