Craig Horsfield’s Mini Transat adventure continues as he battles for 10th overall in the Series Class. After his collision at the start of the race (details here), even participating in the race seemed impossible. Finishing in the top ten would be little short of amazing.
Craig Horsfield (in red) is in heated battle with three other singlehanders for 10th place in the Mini Transat race. The finish line in Point-a-Pitre is less than 500 miles away.
While maintaining a strong position in the fleet (as high as 7th, as low as 12th), Horsfield broke and replaced one of his rudders and also sprained his hand severely enough to seek a radio medical consultation. No doubt there will be many more details forthcoming.
As of right now, Horsfield and his Naked Retreats is fighting off the 11th, 12th and 13th placed boats, all of which range from 5 to 17 miles behind. To see the latest position reports, go here. Horsfield’s wife Carolyn was headed to Guadeloupe to be there for his finish and we’ll try to get word from her when he hits the dock.
The first six Proto Class boats have arrived, which was won by Benoit Marie. Notable is that the second place boat was the square-bowed Prysmian, which Marie contends was faster on most points of sail.
The first two Series Class boats have arrived, with winner Aymeric Belloir turning in a dominating performance. The second-place Justine Mettraux is the highest woman finisher ever in the Series Class.
